Confirmation is an important part of your faith journey with Jesus Christ. It is a time to affirm the promises made at your Baptism.
If you were baptised as an infant these promises were made by your parents and godparents on your behalf. As a young person or adult, you may be ready to affirm these promises and make a lifelong commitment as a disciple to Jesus Christ for yourself.
All confirmation candidates would need to attend a confirmation course. This will be online for adults and at the church for children.
The confirmation will be presided over by the local Bishop and take place at a local church in the diocese. You will normally be invited to a rehearsal at the church where the confirmation is being held. During the service, you will be anointed with chrism oil, and the bishop will lay their hands on your head and ask the Holy Spirit to give you the strength to commit to God for the rest of your life. You will then be invited to receive holy communion.
As with baptism, confirmation is part of a journey to build a relationship with Jesus and be part of the Christian community.
But it is God who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us, by putting his seal on us and giving us his Spirit in our hearts as a first instalment.
