Spire and restoration appeal
In spring 2006 a piece of masonry was found in our Calvary Garden. On close inspection we discovered that it had fallen from the top of the tower and just below the start of the spire.
Through our architect steeplejacks undertook an assessment which showed structural problems in both the tower and the spire. The image on this page was taken at this time and the ladders used can be clearly seen. By some measure of good fortune we were able to submit an application to English Heritage just before their closing date for 2006 applications. Interim safety measures were completed in the early summer.
We are now very hopeful that English Heritage will be able to give us support towards the work. Application is also being made to a number of charitable trusts but a signifant amount of support from the Maidenhead community will be essential to enable this landmark building to be restored.
