An update from Fr Jeremy following the shared faith events - The idea of Faith leaders from the town sharing talks came from Rabbi Dr. Jonathan Romain. Jonathan’s idea is to spread a message of peace and solidarity following the attacks in Pittsburgh, Christchurch, New Zealand and Sri Lanka. Jonathan added ‘I felt the religious leaders had to rise to the challenge and show that, while we cannot control what extremists do, mainstream communities can forge a better way forward.’ Jonathan wants us to highlight that Jews, Christians and Muslims can practise their own religions and live in harmony with each other. The hope is that ‘this will serve as a pilot project that will be emulated throughout the UK.’

All Saints are going to be taking part in this appeal for the 9th time this year (2021). Last year we donated over 60 boxes as gifts for children around the world who don’t have much. Ride & Stride Berkshire Churches Trust’s (“BCT”) annual fund raising event is on Saturday 8th September. For those of you not familiar with this it is one day in the year when many Churches across Berkshire will open their doors for visitors arriving on foot or on their bikes. These “Riders and Striders” are sponsored for the number of Churches they visit during the day with the money raised going to BCT for their valuable work in supporting local Churches; All Saints has benefitted from this support in the past. Importantly, 50% of the sponsorship money raised by anyone from All Saints will come back to us. There is information at the back of the Church next week for anyone who would like to take this opportunity to visit some of Berkshire’s beautiful Churches – as few or as many as you would like.

I write this with a heavy heart but nevertheless it is necessary for me to offer the following advice. Following telephone calls to the Diocese, including the Bishop’s office and the Head of Diocesan communications for the Diocese Steve Buckley I have been asked to limit dramatically the number of people attending the service of our beloved Elaine. I know that many of you will wish to be present at Elaine’s service but for the welling being of all we need to limit numbers to close family and a few others. I will offer a service of thanksgiving for the life of Elaine at a later stage the year when God willing, life will be a little easier for us all. I will be writing Elaine’s funeral homily and putting it on our web page. I will also ask Mike Moss to make available the order of service for those that would like to receive it.
Fr Jeremy

From time to time we raise money for the Oak project which helps to train ordinands in Kenya . On this occasion we are holding a gift day rather than a fundraising event. The Oak project is in the fortunate position of being fully funded for 2019 and 2020. We are now looking to build reserves for 2021 and 2022. When we support ordinands in training it is normally for more than one year. If you would like to make a gift, in addition to your regular freewill giving to the church, please place it in an envelope and mark it for Oak. Oak is not, of course, more important than the financial viability of the church which should always be our primary concern.
Cheques payable to All Saints Church Fund. If you can Gift Aid, please speak to Sue Stannett.

The WEEK BEGGINNING THE 26TH JULY
A couple of weeks ago I had an answering machine message from a lady called Audrey from BBC Radio Berkshire asking me to call her concerning a program that the station was trying to put together. When I phoned Audrey, she was rather relived to get a response as she had experienced problems trying to make contact with potential groups that day. Audrey explained that Radio Berkshire wanted to help charities and community groups within Maidenhead. I informed her that there was plenty going on within the town although some groups had been impacted by the Covid pandemic. The program is aimed at projects coming out of Lockdown rather than the excellent community work that went on supporting vulnerable people during the Lockdowns. This blog covers some of these.

When talking with members of the congregation it is clear that there is significant variation in the
understanding of how the church is run and administered, what it costs and where the money is spent. If we can get a clearer understanding of the congregation's view of this, we can improve our communication and, hopefully, commitment to the stewardship of All Saints.
To help us do this we have produced a very short survey on the congregation's understanding of the running, administration and costs of the church. It is tick box, anonymous and will take about five minutes of your time. It is easily completed using the link and pressing “Done”
If you prefer a paper copy these are available at the back of the church, please return them to the Parish Office by Sunday 8 September, which is also the closing date for the electronic survey.
Please do take the five minutes to do this and so help in the stewardship of All Saints.
Please sign the notice at the back of the Church if you are coming to help with catering!
The Mothers’ Union was begun in 1876 by Mary Sumner – 140 years ago – so this month we are marking the occasion with a small presentation of Mary Sumner’s life, followed by a cream tea and a raffle. During our Year of Mission All Saints will work with St Luke’s and Cox Green to have a year focusing on mission in our parishes. Bishop Andrew has some (generous) funding to enable us to put on some specific activities and events and to reflect on how we might share our faith with those around us—and then do it more effectively.
We hope most people can come and join us at the events, many of which we will be joined by Fr. Jeremy from All Saints, Revd Joan from the Church of the Good Shepherd and Revd Sally from St Luke's along with friends from their parishes.

This week we are thinking about the challenge that Rabbi Dr Jonathan Romain has set the Muslim, Christian and Jewish faiths in the light of the attacks made on Pittsburgh, Christchurch, New Zealand and Sri Lanka. Jonathan, Imam Abid Hashmi and myself are going to speak in each other’s place of worship. Jonathan’s idea is to spread a message of peace and solidarity following the atrocities. The idea is to show that we can practice our religions and live in harmony with one another as well as seek the common good for our communities.

Are we obvious Christians? Are we the people who bring out the God-flavours and God-colours of this world, and moreover, are proud of it?
Keble College was founded in 1870 in memory of John Keble, a key member of the Oxford Movement which sought to recover the medieval Christian heritage of the Church of England. Its extensive gothic architecture is absolutely breath-taking and of course has a strong resonance for All Saints, also sprung from the Oxford Movement. In the chapel you will see Holman Hunt’s famous painting ‘The Light of the World’.
New College is close to Keble College and Jacob Epstein's moving statue of Lazarus can be seen in the AnteChapel as you go in.

Dear all,
I have just had a long and frank discussion with the Bishop over tomorrow’s funeral service. Olivia is generally happy with what we are doing here at All Saints concerning supporting people over the coronavirus crisis but she is not happy with me officiating public services. I have said that I desperately want to take this service (Not trying to be a hero) but she has said I cannot guarantee that numbers will be small. I have explained that I have sent out a letter notifying people of the situation and promised that I will have a Thanksgiving service at a later date.
All I can ask of you is to consider seriously whether it right for you to attend on 1. Your own health grounds and 2. The needs of others.
I need to be sure that the service has relatively small numbers attending.

Tuesday Club started life in the 1960s when it was called The Young Wives Club. It has been through several incarnations over the years and has now become a group which meets monthly between September and June and is open to everyone. The membership, it’s fair to say, is predominately female but everyone is welcome and we do have some interesting speakers. This month we will welcome a speaker from Mercy Ships. Meetings are advertised in the Parish News so if something appeals to you why not come along and give us a try?
The Tuesday Club will now be meeting at Woodstock for the AGM

Sixty years on some of the original members are still around but the group is open to anyone who would like to come along at 2.30pm, usually on the first Tuesday of the month, to hear an interesting speaker or take part in a light-hearted quiz and then enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a chat. No charge for a taster meeting then guests are asked to pay £3 per meeting.

It’s always lovely to welcome an old friend, isn’t it? This time it’s Graham Horn who’s delighted us with his adventures on Mount Kilimanjaro, tales of heirs apparent who apparently didn’t get to be King and grateful villages who lost no-one in either world war. Whatever next? I hear you ask. Well, it’s anniversaries in 2025 so why not come along and find out more.

This Mothering Sunday, 22nd March, we are calling all churches to a National Day of Prayer and Action. At such a time as this, when so many are fearful and there is great uncertainty, we are reminded of our dependence on our loving Heavenly Father and the future that he holds.
At 7pm this Sunday, light a candle in the windows of your homes as a visible symbol of the light of life, Jesus Christ, our source and hope in prayer.

For this you will need the Bethlehem Carol service booklet, If you would like one please pick one up from church on a Wednesday or Sunday morning or let Jeanette or myself know if you would like one delivered. You will also need a willingness to sing to your hearts content at home (on mute) and maybe a mince pie and a glass of mulled wine or sherry as we chat to each other.
